Vijayanagar District-in-Charge Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan has announced a cash reward of ₹50,000 for each team member involved in the challenging task of installing a temporary stoplog at the damaged crest gate of the Tungabhadra Dam. During a brief interaction with the workers, he encouraged them, saying, “Complete the work by Friday afternoon, and I will personally award ₹50,000 to each of you.”
Efforts to install the temporary stoplog began on Wednesday but faced setbacks by Thursday evening. The team, led by experts, has been attempting to place the stoplog at the base of the damaged crest gate using a crane. Despite their efforts, success remained elusive as of Thursday. This operation is the first of its kind in India, and the team plans to resume their attempts on Friday.
The dam, which reported an outflow of over 25 TMCFT of water after the gate failure, currently holds 76 TMCFT of water. The team is working diligently to prevent further water loss, with one stoplog alone capable of halting 25 cusecs of outflow.
